Earth Day Activities We Love
At Bloom Culture, our roots have always been firmly planted in the garden. We’re nature lovers through and through, and with Earth Day coming up on April 22, it feels like the perfect moment to celebrate the beauty and impact that plants and flowers bring not just to your home or yard, but to our planet too.
Gardening is one of the simplest ways to connect with nature and do something good for the environment at the same time. Planting flowers and greenery doesn’t just make your space look beautiful. It helps clean the air, enrich the ecosystem, and provides food and shelter for birds, bees, and other little visitors we all depend on.
If you’re new to gardening, Earth Day is a great excuse to get your hands in the soil. Start small with a few containers on your porch or balcony. Fill them with hardy, zone-3b-friendly plants like Salvia, Coneflower, Hens and Chicks, or Blue Fescue. Not sure what will thrive in your space? Talk to your local garden centre or visit us at the Bloom Culture studio. We’re always happy to help you choose plants that work with your light, soil, and schedule.
It wouldn’t be a garden without our favorite outdoor helpers: bees. Did you know 90% of wild plants and 75% of crops depend on pollinators? With urban development on the rise, bee habitats are shrinking faster than they can be replaced. By planting pollinator-friendly perennials and annuals, you’re helping nourish native bees all season long. Fun fact: Canada is home to more than 850 species of native bees.
If a floral garden isn’t on your list this year, there are still plenty of ways to show the Earth some love. Shop at smaller markets that carry locally grown produce and handmade goods. You’ll reduce your carbon footprint and support local growers and makers at the same time.
One of the best ways to celebrate Earth Day is to simply get outside. Take a walk, explore a local trail, or wander through your neighborhood. Notice what’s blooming. Take a deep breath. Maybe bring a bag and pick up a little litter while you’re at it. Every small action helps.
Happy Earth Day and happy gardening. You deserve to live beautifully in your yard, your home, and everywhere you spend your time. We’re so grateful to help you do just that, one plant at a time.
